club HISTORY
Rotaract is an offshoot of Rotary International. The San Diego Downtown Rotaract Club works under the guidance of the San Diego Breakfast Rotary, and takes its name from the combination of ROTARY and ACTION.
Rotary's object is to encourage and foster the idea of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and in particular, to encourage and foster:
- The development of acquaintances in an opportunity of service.
- High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupation and the dignifying by each Rotarian of his or her occupation as an opportunity to serve society.
- The applications of the ideal of service by every Rotarian to his or her personal, business, and community life.
- The advancement of international understanding, good-will, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional men and women united in the ideal of service.
Established in 1994, the Rotaract Club of Downtown San Diego is different than most other university-based Rotaract clubs. The Rotaract Club of Downtown San Diego draws younger, post-college professionals right from the San Diego community, and serves that same community in a variety of ways.
Our club has been involved in a variety of successful events since its inception, and won the 2004-2005 "Outstanding Service Project" award for USA, Canada, and the Caribbean for our Jazz for Juvinile Diabetes project! Other flagship events include fundraisers like Ace of Hearts, service projects like Tijuana homebuilding, and social events like happy hours, holiday parties, and summer bonfires at the beach. View our scrapbook for pictures and writeups from a variety of events.
our MEETINGS
Normal Meetings are the first and third Tuesday of every month at 6:30 pm at Hennessey's Pub, 708 4th Ave, Downtown. (Click for Map)
Our meetings are a great way to make new friends, look for business opportunities, volunteer for community events, and gain advice about your career.
Once a month we have a local professional come and speak to our club, to discuss various topics and advice. Each speaker engages the group with helpful career development or personal growth solutions.
